In 2016 my name was for the first time mentioned on E-FLUX. I was one of the participating artists at Alternativa 2016, curated by Anna Nawrot, Lívia Páldi and Aneta Szyłak. In 2022 my name was mentioned again on E-FLUX, this time not as a participating artist, but as a technical project coordinator.
It is true for most artists that they cannot pay their rent, buy food and the material for their work only with the income they generate through their practice: It is a constant struggle to find the right balance between life as an artist and the necessity to earn money. This is why those of us who don't earn enough money as artists and who did not inherit a fortune from their families often have to work in other jobs as well - for example on construction sites, as care workers, in the service industry, as teachers, etc.
Also I cannot afford to work as a full-time artist - even though I would like to. I need a part-time job to pay my bills. Nevertheless I am in a quite fortunate position: because I am self-employed as a technician I can choose to work the necessary minimum in order to maximise the time I have as an artist. However, this work identity easily gets blurred and confused with my artist identity, because both identiies are rooted in the field of art and culture.
This is the reason why I chose to split them up. From now on I use my mother's maiden name for my artist identity: Daniel Vollmond, formerly known as Daniel Dressel.
1. THIS WEBSITE IS AN ORGANIC ENTITY, A TOOL FOR REFLECTION, COMMUNICATION AND SHARING, RATHER THAN JUST A WAY TO REPRESENT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE.
2. ON A PURELY TECHNICAL LEVEL, WEBSITES ARE PROGRAMMED TO CHANGE ACCORDING TO THE VIEWER'S DEVICE, IT'S SCREEN SIZE AND ACCORDING TO THE VIEWER'S BROWSER. IN OTHER WORDS: THE CODING BEHIND THE WEBSITE'S APPEARANCE IS CONSTANTLY NEGOTIATING WITH THE SOFTWARE AND THE HARDWARE THAT IS BEING USED TO DISPLAY ITS CONTENT.

1. This website is an organic entity, a tool for reflection, communication and sharing, rather than just a way to represent something or someone.
2. On a puely technical level, websites are programmed to change according to the viewer's device, it's screen size and according to the viewers browser. In other words: the coding behind the website's appearance is constantly negotiating with the software and the hardware that is being used to display it's content.

Someone once asked me: Where is home?
I don’t know. But in the past I often asked myself: "Is it possible to get lost if you don’t know where you are going?"
Even though I still have no answer to this question, I know now that the question on the one hand comes from a sense of helplessness when faced with the disparity of the world, on the other hand from an experienced lack of power toward systems that are beyond our control. Yet I also like this question because it is romantic: It indicates a sense of ‘longing’. As such the question contains a fantasy that wants to influence and change the present moment. In that sense, maybe ‘to get lost’ means to interfere with the structure of the world in order to move toward a different, perhaps better future.
